Premature Ceasefire

It seems 9^th District Congressman, Morgan Griffith thinks his president, Donald J. Trump should be praised for the current ceasefire on Iran. The same Donald J. Trump that started this needless war. The same Donald J. Trump that bombed an Iranian girl’s school. On April 7, 2026, Morgan Griffith wrote on his Facebook page the following.

“President Trump is to be commended for reaching a ceasefire agreement with Iran. Thanks to the great efforts of U.S. armed forces, Iran has been crippled and has been forced to the negotiating table.

I support negotiations that lead to Iran never having nuclear capabilities. Also, I am praying for the Americans who gave their lives for their country and for their families. Their service is to be commended.”

There is a lot you are leaving out here, Congressman Morgan Griffith. You are leaving out the fact that the Barack Obama administration was actually able to negotiate the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCOPA) using diplomacy. This deal exchanged oil and financial sanctions relief for Iran in exchange for strict limits on uranium enrichment, reduction of nuclear stockpiles, dismantling thousands of centrifuges, and inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency. This deal was agreed to by the U.S., Iran, and other NATO countries. It was brokered by diplomacy, not war. On May 18, 2018, Donald Trump during his first term, ended the JCOPA. He called it a “horrible” deal.

On June 21, 2025, the Donald Trump administration launched strikes on Iran. After the strikes, he was quoted as saying that Iran’s nuclear program was “obliterated like nobody’s ever seen before.” The United Nations gave a different narrative, one that predicted Iran’s nuclear capabilities would be up and running again in a few months. Fast forward to February 2026 when President Trump started a war on Iran for their nuclear capabilities, it sure looks like the United Nations was right and Donald Trump was wrong. Did Trump have bad intelligence or was he just lying to us in 2025?

So here we are, in a war with Iran; a war that Donald Trump cannot easily exit from. He’s threatened our NATO allies on truth social to come to his rescue. He posted on his truth social feed that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if Iran does not bend to his will. Congressman Griffith states on his Facebook page that Iran has been crippled. I would hardly call Iran crippled, Morgan. They currently control the Strait of Hormuz which lets 20% of the world’s oil pass.

Now we apparently have a 2 weeks ceasefire with Iran to make a deal. And we all know how the president likes to make deals. This war has cost 40 million taxpayer dollars so far. Thousands of people are dead, including U.S. soldiers and a girl’s school. The entire world has higher gas prices. Our safety is at risk. The safety of the women, children, and grandparents of Iran is at risk. The entire world’s safety is at risk when there is a powerful bully making stupid decisions. And you, Congressman Morgan Griffith, are licking your king’s boots. It’s good you are praying for the soldiers and their families. Are you praying for the families of the girl’s school that was bombed? Are you praying for a whole civilization not to die? Or are threats of genocide fine with you?

Congressman Morgan Griffith, we need people that are actually qualified to do their jobs in our government. We need experienced diplomats to broker this deal with Iran. But they have all been fired by Donald J Trump whom you shower with praise and adulation. We need a Secretary of Defense that is not a drunken weekend Fox News Host. We need to keep our top military leaders working right now, not fire them and replace them with yes men. We need members of congress willing to step up and honor the oath they swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States. And Morgan Griffith, do you honestly expect the deal your president ends up making will be any better than the JCPOA? So far it looks to be worse than the state of affairs before this insane “excursion.” Iran is demanding to keep controlling the Strait of Hormuz and charge a fee for passage of ships! Will Iran get to keep their nuclear capabilities? Why am I asking you? You’ve made it clear that you’ll be too busy taking money from lobbyists and playing sycophant for your king to actually do your job as a member of congress. I guess we will just have to wait and see what kind of deal your president makes. No matter how raw a deal it is, we can always count on you to talk it up on Facebook.
