Dispatch RELEASE

H.R. 1 is Passed, The Death Bill Comes to America on it's 249 Birthday

Congressman Morgan Griffith voted for H.R.1, the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” on July 4th 2025 which will cut funding to Medicaid in order to give tax breaks to the wealthy.

Because of Griffith’s vote, “Virginia is projected to lose $6.8 billion in Medicaid spending over the next 10 years and some 300,000 state residents are expected to lose health care,” according to Katie Baker, state director for Protect Our Care.1 There are also fears of rural hospital closures.

Congressman Morgan Griffith is on the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce which has jurisdiction over Medicaid. In an email last week, Congressman Morgan Griffith said, “Rural hospitals and the state should have time to adjust. The states were supposed to be partners with the federal government on Medicaid Expansion, and this change will force the Medicaid Expansion states to live up to their commitment. If the states do so, rural hospitals should be OK.”1 How is that OK?

During this time period when so many of our social safety nets are having funds reduced by the federal government (FEMA, SNAP…) and with the economic engine of Northern Virginia (the bulk of our tax base) being sabotaged by the Trump administration, how can Virginia possibly make up the difference? Remember we are looking at 80%+ Medicaid funding cuts to rural Virginia Hospitals, including 2 here in SWVA.

Candidate Adam Murphy is running for the Ninth Congressional U.S. House seat that Morgan Griffith currently occupies. Adam firmly believes money should not be taken away from Medicaid so that millionaires and billionaires can get more tax breaks. The wealthy don’t need more government handouts paid for by hard working American’s federal tax dollars.

Adam will fight hard for Medicare/Medicaid for all. He wants to eliminate premiums, co-pays and deductibles. He wants improved access to health care in our 9th congressional district and the rest of the nation. Adam recognizes the benefits to local businesses if they don’t have to provide health insurance for their employees. And just think how much more freedom there will be for hard working Americans to change jobs or take time away from the work force to care for family.
