Dispatch RELEASE
Griffith's Medicaid Cuts too Close to Home
In Morgan Griffith’s Facebook weekly e-newsletter on November 28, 2025, he discusses provider taxes and how they relate to Medicaid. Early on in this post he writes, “Their talking points [referring to Democrats] suggests the bill impacts the traditional Medicaid population, including pregnant women, seniors, children, and individuals with disabilities. This is NOT true.”
On December 10, 2025 a bulletin from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to North Carolina medical providers said the following:
Dear Providers,
Thank you for your continued commitment to the people of North Carolina. We know the provider rate reductions implemented in October created real challenges for you, your staff and the individuals you serve. Those reductions were necessary to keep the Medicaid program solvent in the absence of adequate funding from the General Assembly.
Recent court rulings now require the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to reverse those reductions and restore rates to their Sept. 30, 2025, levels. While this change brings short-term relief, it is important to be clear: the underlying financial crisis has not been resolved.
Medicaid is currently underfunded by $319 million. With the rate reductions no longer an available tool at this time, NCDHHS now has no remaining mechanisms to responsibly manage this funding gap. As a result, the Medicaid program is projected to run out of money early next year.
If this happens, the consequences will be far more severe than the rate change. The stability of the entire Medicaid program – and the care provided to more than three million North Carolinians – is at risk.
We want to ensure you have a clear understanding of the situation:
The restoration of rates does not mean the problem has been resolved.
The financial risk to Medicaid is greater now than before.
Decisions about future funding are solely in the hands of the General Assembly.
We will continue to communicate transparently as the situation evolves and keep you informed of any developments that may affect the people you serve. We remain deeply grateful for your partnership and dedication during this time of significant uncertainty.
North Carolina Medicaid is on track to run out of money early next year? All because of the One Big Beautiful Bill? It seems like Morgan Griffith is just plain wrong! He voted for these Medicaid cuts and it looks like just across the border in North Carolina those cuts are very much affecting the “traditional Medicaid population, including pregnant women, seniors, children, and individuals with disabilities,” along with everyone else in the state. Without the money from Medicaid to prop it up, their entire health system is in danger of collapse. And just because the crisis hasn’t quite reached those proportions in Virginia, don’t think for a second there isn’t trouble brewing here in the 9th as well.
Morgan Griffith wants you to think he’s not out to hurt the “traditional Medicaid population,” but, in reality, his votes seem to be hurting everyone but the wealthy. He’s hurting North Carolina, he’s hurting Virginia, he’s hurting all of us in the 9th District, and pretty much everyone in every other state in the US. And for what? Just so millionaires and billionaires can get tax breaks! Vote Adam Murphy, in June 2026 and November 2026. Vote for someone who wants to help all Americans prosper, not just the rich ones.
