Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, former Fox news drama host decided to attack another genderless American Classic, “The Boy Scouts of America”, after a recent name change to “Scouting of America”, to foster inclusivity within the organization.

Somewhere between his millionth whisky shot and recent probable war crimes, Pete Hegseth is concerned that the “Boy Scouts” has strayed from its mission to cultivate “masculine values”. He is threatening to cancel the West Virgina Jamboree that is held every four years over a national security issue, or is it over a gender issue?

Yet, Congress requires the Pentagon to support the Jamboree as the military often uses the event as a training opportunity and a tool to recruit highly motivated young girls and boys. Many Scouts will continue their education in military academies. For example, since 2003 over 3,500 students who have graduated from West Point participated in the Scouts. Over 20 percent of the recent graduating class of the United States Airforce, participated in Scouting America.

The U.S. military lends trucks, ambulances, medical teams, and even puts on aviation and skydiving demonstrations, all at no cost to the Scouts. This event is a symbiotic opportunity for both the military and civic-minded kids hoping to pursue military careers.

The Boys Scouts of America was founded on February 8^th, 1910, and is now a 115-year-old organization that has 1 million youth currently involved and over 130 million Americans have participated in the organization including over 200,000 girl scouts!

The stated mission of Scouting America is to "prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law." Youth are trained in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations.

As an aside, Adam Murphy did participate in Scouting, from Cub Scouts all the way to Eagle Scout. He also is very supportive of the change of Boy Scouts to Scouting America. There were already Venture Crews which were co-ed starting at age 14. Scouting teaches valuable live skills and all who wish to learn & participate should have the option to do so.

Not surprising because for many of us, words like responsible, leadership, character, values, oath, ethical, and moral, Petey Wheaty Whiskeybreath doesn’t come to mind. He lacks all these traits. He mismanaged his last two leadership positions, Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) which almost went bankrupt and the Vets for Freedom (VFF) in which was eventually merged with another non -profit to remain solvent. He liked spending taxpayer money on personal expenses like whiskey and bars with strippers.

Second, Petey is really threatened by women. He wants them out of the military, out of the voting booth, and out of the work force. Poor Petey, classic patriarchal male who really lacks self-regulation only to use coercive control, abusive hostile tactics, and just bad, bad judgment.

Third, Petey doesn’t like to take responsibility for his actions and would rather blame others or alcohol for his past wrongs. Petey Wheaty Wiskeybreath is still trying to get over his wedgy. Let’s hope he can redirect his anger on not being good enough to be a Scout and at least try to adopt some of the ethos of the Scouts instead of his dated Nazi/Gladiator wet dream fantasies.

He could learn from Scouting America as they evolve to build a culture where each youth, volunteer, and employee share a sense of belonging as they build communities where every person feels respected and valued. Leading by example and encouraging each other to live by the values expressed by the Scout Oath and Scout Law, where welcoming families of all backgrounds helps prepare young people to serve as successful members and leaders of our nation’s increasingly diverse communities.

Yep, there it is again, diverse, leaders, communities, and values…. fantastic words…strong words.

Keep going Scouting of America! We are proud of our young girls and boys who have taken the Scouting America oath and the challenge to be an exceptional, self-reliant human being. I am sure, many of our leaders will see to it that the tradition of the Scouting America Jamboree continues and wouldn’t be surprised if a general or two reminded Petey that such a good drama queen belongs at Fox News and not in our White House!
