We must Restore and Enhance

Decaying Infrastructure

  • Roads & Bridges: Many roads are narrow, poorly maintained, and congested. Bridges are aging and require costly repairs or replacements.

  • Water & Wastewater Systems: Aging pipes and treatment facilities are prone to leaks, breaks, and system failures. Rapid growth puts strain on existing capacity.

  • Broadband Access: Significant lack of reliable broadband access, particularly in rural areas, which hinders our communities from prospering in the 21st century.

  • Public Transportation: Limited public transportation options, particularly outside of urban areas, restrict mobility and accessibility.

  • Flood Mitigation: Hurricane Helene & its aftermath highlighted our vulnerability to catastrophic flooding. Improved drainage, flood mitigation & early warning systems are necessary to avoid future loss of life & property.

Every American in SWVA should have the confidence to know their roads are clean and free of potholes, that their water didn't come to them in a lead pipe, and the complete access to the internet at high speeds so that the might better participate in the digital world. There is no reason why there are still dropped calls and texts. There was a bill passed in 1994, that was directly responsible for building out broadband and fiber access to all of America, but especially rural parts of the county, but there was no enforcement mechanism for how quickly they build it in the bill and so those telecommunications companies pocketed billions without actually installing the lines. They owe you.

There is no reason we can't afford to spend a bit of money to ensure our water is at the highest quality standards including against PFAS and other such forever chemicals, and spending a little now safe guards the future while generating local jobs now to do the research and work.

There is no reason electrical and gas costs should be so high, and with renewal energy, there is a path to a zero cost energy bill for all but the highest electrically demanding households (looking at you bulk crypto miners).

At this point our current Congressman, Morgan Griffith, isn’t working for the people of his district. He is working for his corporate donors, who, as history shows, later rescind on promised deals. Griffith isn’t working to help his constituents or fix infrastructure. He is only interested in enriching himself & his corporate buddies. There are real solutions to fixing much of our problems that ultimately end in reduced costs for Americans everywhere while improving our quality of lives immensely.

Current Efforts & Funding Sources:

  • Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT): Responsible for maintaining state roads and bridges. VDOT's Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP) allocates funding for road projects.

  • Local Governments: Counties and cities are responsible for maintaining local roads and providing water and wastewater services.

  • Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA): Provides significant funding for infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, broadband, and water infrastructure. This Jobs Act initiative is under threat from Republicans cutting the program.

  • Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB): Allocates transportation funding for projects throughout the state.
