Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth threatens to shut down the West Virginia Jamboree after a name‑change to Scouting of America.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military has long relied on the jamboree to train and recruit future soldiers, supplying trucks, medical teams, and sky‑diving demos free of charge. With 3,500 West Point graduates and a quarter of the Air Force class having Scout backgrounds, Hegseth’s move shows just how performative he is.

Petey Wheatey has a Wedgy!

While corporate profits doubled under Morgan's watch, real Americans of SWVA have had to make due with less caused by rising costs and inflation brought about due to overspending and selling Americans' futures just so corporations and corrupt politicians can continue to receive kickbacks and rake in profit on the back of the American taxpayer.

Stagnant Wages

Yet again we the People of the United States find ourselves dealing with conflicts and war in the Middle East. How many times must we go through this cycle?

How many times will we learn that we are meddling in affairs that do not concern us, and to act preemptively is to self-inflict wounds on our own people and country.

Never Funds for Southwest Virginia, Always Money for Endless War

As the world reflects on the short life of Tatiana Celia Kennedy Schlossberg since her passing on December 30th, there is an undeniable lesson in her commitment and passion advocating for a better world.

She was born on May 5th, 1990, in New York City to Edwin Schlossberg and Caroline Kennedy. As a granddaughter of the 35th U.S. president John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, she was propelled into this world connected to a political dynasty.

Tatiana took to task her American pedigree, using it to amplify her concerns about the destruction of our planet as a committed and deeply passionate environmental journalist.

This was not just a job for Tatiana; this advocacy work was her calling. Today, let us celebrate her life and the ways her legacy will inspire generations to come.

Good Troubles Protest

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in rural Virginia are reimbursed at rates that do not reflect the true cost of providing 24/7 emergency coverage. While federal law does not explicitly mandate lower rural reimbursement, the structure of Medicare, Medicaid, and state funding formulas systematically underfund rural EMS agencies that operate across large geographic areas like Southwest Virginia with low call volumes and high readiness costs.

Rural EMS Reimbursement Crisis

The effects of our current de-regulated, free-market capitalistic society are all around us. They range from daily inconveniences to our ability to survive.

Large companies do not even pretend to offer good customer service anymore. Wages are not livable. Working conditions are poor.

It's time for change.

The Bottom Line's Crushin' Us

The Job Corps center in Marion, a vital lifeline for disadvantaged youth in Southwest Virginia, is facing potential closure. This center provides job training, education, and housing for young people facing significant barriers to success, offering them a pathway to a better future. Its closure would potentially lead to increasing unemployment, poverty, and crime.

Job Centers Closing

A teenager in Minnesota collapsed after surviving on one egg for three days after her entire family was detained by ICE. Click the link below to learn more about a recent press conference held by Minnesota doctors discussing the impact ICE is having on their patients.

ICED Out: Healthcare and Rights

As the largest health care insurer in the Unites States, United Healthcare has long mastered the art of profitability by not paying for services. But there are other unsavory practices many might not be aware of. One such example is a division of United Healthcare that utilizes a business model that puts medical professionals on their own payroll, by the bedside to direct healthcare decisions regarding individuals that are covered under United Healthcare policies.

By contrast, the role of a publicly financed and publicly administered insurer would ideally eliminate the roles that shareholders and profits play in denying necessary care.

United Healthcare: Profits before Patient

On day one of Governor Abigail Spanberger’s administration, she rescinded Governor Glen Youngkin’s order forcing Virginia’s state and local police to cooperate and even be deputized by ICE. Congressman Morgan Griffith wrote her a letter asking her to reinstate this order that required the Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security to reach out to every sheriff or director over a jail in Virginia to make sure they would fully cooperate with ICE.

The letter used Migration Policy Institute as it’s reference because a quick Google search shows the highest number of undocumented Virginia residents, 361,000 comes from that site. What Morgan Griffith failed to do was actually read the Migration Policy Institute’s report. It tells quite a different story from what Morgan Griffith is pushing.

Congressman Morgan Griffith Thinks He Can Legislate by Using a Google Search

Virginia Tech’s local Turning Point chapter welcomed Megyn Kelly and Governor Glenn Youngkin to Burruss Auditorium. Initially, Charlie Kirk was supposed to attend the event and speak to Tech students, but with his passing last week, Kelly and Youngkin took his place.

Hear from actual student's perspectives by reading more.

From Echoes to Protest: Virginia Tech Confronts TPUSA

By taking this pledge, the candidate or elected official agrees that they will not knowingly accept any contributions over $200 from the executives, lobbyists, or PACs affiliated with the hospital, insurance, and pharma corporations that have chosen to bankroll an effort to halt any attempts at health care reform.

These corporations, which directly profit off of the pain, suffering, and, in the worst cases, death of patients, use those same profits to purchase political influence in an attempt to defend a wasteful system that is failing tens of millions of people. This pledge does not apply to rank-and-file workers who are employed by these corporations.

Patients Over Profits Pledge

This administrations touts a “drop” in grocery prices since taking office, and recent data from a DoorDash. They claim overall breakfast items fell a tiny amount over a 12‑month span, while other sources highlight rising costs across the board in almost every category.

The Consumer Price Index confirms grocery prices have continued to climb since January 2022, underscoring the ongoing squeeze on everyday budgets.

Daddy Donald, Can I have some Lunch Money?

The decline in rural communities, the lack of opportunities for young families, the decay of American society are all interconnected and stem from a fundamental imbalance: too much focus on foreign affairs and not enough investment in the heartland of America.

Foreign Wars & Lack of American Attention

Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith’s claim that Medicaid cuts don’t hurt the “traditional” poor is a straight‑up lie – and the fallout is already crippling North Carolina’s health system.

We deserve better in the 9th District. America deserves better.

Griffith's Medicaid Cuts too Close to Home

22-26% of SWVA renters are considered "rent-burdened" (spending more than 30% of their income on rent).

Higher failure rate for small businesses in low-income areas.

How many residents have had to use payday loans or other predatory lending services?

Economic Exploitation

Wise County voters turned down a referendum to create a new electric authority that would host a micro‑nuclear reactor. We the people of SWVA deserve a seat at the table when it comes to choose the future of our grid and how we develop, and this vote reflected that truth.

Electrifying Rejection: Wise County Says No to Electric Authority

AI Hyperscale Data Centers are trying to infringe on the natural beauty of the Appalachians here in the Commonwealth. Virginia already has the most data centers per capita in all of the world. All without any transparency.

AI Data Centers Coming to SWVA

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act makes some disastrous changes to student loan borrowing.

Starting July 1, 2026, the PLUS loan is no longer available to graduate, PhD, and professional degree students.

For those of you wanting to obtain a law degree or dental degree, the financial burden will likely be as crippling as the two aforementioned degrees.

H.R. 1's Disastrous Student Loan Changes

Many roads are narrow, poorly maintained, and congested. Bridges are aging and require costly repairs or replacements. Parts of the district are vulnerable to flooding, requiring improved drainage and flood control measures. Such as what's occurring in Damascus & Dante. Significant lack of reliable broadband access, particularly in rural areas.

Decaying Infrastructure

Life in Virginia's 9th District is becoming increasingly challenging for many families. While the district boasts beautiful communities and natural wonder, the cost of living is rapidly outpacing wages. It's time to address these economic pressures and ensure that everyone in the 9th District has the opportunity to thrive, not just survive.

Rising Costs of Living

The Murphy Campaign for Congress in Virginia’s 9th District is a People-First campaign, one that aims to place the Americans of Southwest Virginia squarely in focus above all else as we build a future we all deserve. We are pleased to formally announce that we will be a people-powered campaign that rejects AI content generation, 100%. We commit to using only human expertise, creators, and work.

People-First and Zero-AI Generation Commitment

Americans' rights are under siege. There are many situations where due process is currently being ignored, and if Federal Government can ignore due process, they can and will ignore it for you, too.

Many groups of Americans have been used as weaponized targets to scapegoat Congress' lack of oversight over this admin's blatant crimes and abuses, paid for by robber barons.

Human & Constitutional Rights

Youtuber and advocate Mr. Beat endorses candidate Adam Murphy for Virginia's 9th Congressional District, The Fighting Ninth, because we want to uncap the House!

Mr. Beat Endorses Adam Murphy for Congress

With the passage of the HR 1 Bill (You know it as One Big Beautiful Bill, but we call it the Death Bill), Healthcare is at massive risk in multiple areas in the Ninth. 4 rural hospitals in the district are almost guaranteed to start closing by 01/01/2027. Unless swift action is taken, thousands of Virginians will have to travel hundreds of miles to get critical care when many already have to drive long distances for care. That distance will be deadly.

Hospitals Closing

Pulls back the curtain on the former president’s latest “great deals”: the $1.2 trillion‑worth economic pact with Qatar, the $6 billion‑value crypto deals, and a $20 billion aid package to Argentina (now 40 billion).

Each transaction serves Trump’s personal enrichment ambitions more than it safeguards the American people or her economy.

We must ensure that future “deals” truly benefit the people, not just the powerful.

The Art of Making a Deal

In our district, multiple birthing centers have been closed in the last couple of years.

Eleven counties in SWVA are considered deserts for maternity wards

Residents lack comprehensive reproductive healthcare, respectful birthing experiences, and support for all families, regardless of their choices.

Reproductive Health & Family Wellbeing

From keeping medications refrigerated to powering essential medical devices, reliable electricity is a lifeline for many Virginians. We reveal how political decisions based on false information are threatening that lifeline, driving up costs, and jeopardizing the future of Virginia’s power grid.

Learn why embracing renewable energy is the key to a more affordable and secure energy future for the Ninth District, all a part of the economic opportunity the 21st Century Deal will provide.

Renewables: Cheaper, Faster, Essential

The best health care that we give in this country is evidence based. “Evidence-based medicine is about making the best possible decisions in patient care using the best available evidence. It’s about ensuring that doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals don’t just follow tradition or intuition, but rely on actual scientific studies and well-tested data to guide their actions.5”

We cannot trade our safety for incorrect ideology.

Protecting Our Children: Why Evidence-Based Vaccines Matter

Originally intended to lower costs, Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) are now central to the controversy surrounding high drug prices. We examine how opaque rebate systems, restricted patient access, and predatory pricing practices are impacting pharmacies and patients alike.

As regulators begin to scrutinize these powerful intermediaries, discover why their role demands urgent reform for the sake of affordable healthcare.

Pharmacy Benefit Managers: Power, Profits, and the Growing Controversy

Congressman Griffith should have experts to turn to. Education, experience, and expertise are important. We should not have a lawyer with a hole in his brain where a worm used to be as the secretary of Health and Human Services, especially peddling non-existing technology.

Congressman Morgan Griffith should use his brain and not just be a lapdog for Robert F. Kennedy and the Trump administration. The 9th district of Southwest Virginia deserves better than Robert F. Kennedy Jr and Morgan Griffith.

Biothreat Radar Detection System?

Fixing the shortage of infant daycare in Virginia requires increased public investment, workforce support, regulatory reform, and cross-sector partnerships. These strategies will help ensure all families have access to safe, affordable, and high-quality infant care and prevent further people from being priced out of the the life they want and deserve.

Fixing the Lack of Infant Daycare in Virginia

Southwest Virginia democrats are now looking with a critical eye at who represents the common working person and their struggles. They want leadership that doesn’t sell out those who have circumstances that do not afford them the luxury of big salaries and affordable insurance policies.

There are young, progressive, independent thinkers are seeing the old way of doing politics is no longer working and there is a better, more human way of creating policy & being accountable to their constituents.

Virginia Apple Polisher

While offering lower premiums and extra perks, these plans often provide poorer coverage, deny necessary care, and use Health Risk Assessments to upcode diagnoses. This creates the illusion of sicker enrollees and triggering billions more in federal payments without added medical service.

All for executives’ lavish pay; this is your warning about upcoming AI‑based prior‑authorization systems too. We must stop this and make healthcare a human and American right.

Medicare (Dis)Advantage

Congressman Morgan Griffith voted for H.R.1, the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” on July 4th 2025 which will cut funding to Medicaid in order to give tax breaks to the wealthy.

Because of Griffith’s vote, “Virginia is projected to lose $6.8 billion in Medicaid spending over the next 10 years and some 300,000 state residents are expected to lose health care,” according to Katie Baker, state director for Protect Our Care.

H.R. 1 is Passed, The Death Bill Comes to America on it's 249 Birthday

It seems 9th District Congressman, Morgan Griffith thinks his president, Donald J. Trump should be praised for the current ceasefire on Iran. The same Donald J. Trump that started this needless war. The same Donald J. Trump that bombed an Iranian girl’s school.

Premature Ceasefire

ADAM MURPHY FOR VIRGINIA’S 9TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT ISSUES STATEMENT ON PROPOSED VIRGINIA REDISTRICTING: “WE ARE THE FIGHTING 9TH”

Proposed Virginia Redistricting

Wytheville's Board Of Supervisors meeting we attended was to purposefully disclose that the AI Data Centers were being built and even the clearing of trees had started. I was inspired to see that Wythe citizens came out with passion and vigor to share their upset about the agreement with local government.

No NDA's in government elected officials for the sake of truth and transparency!
